Call for Photos: Canada Day Old Post Office Projection Show
In partnership with the Cambridge Celebrates Canada Day committee, we invite residents submit photos of themselves or family members to be included in the Canada Day Old Post Office Projection Show. Show off your Canada Day spirit by submitting past or present photos of how you celebrate. Submit your photo by June 15 to be included in the exhibit.
Depending on provincial, municipal and public health guidelines, the Canada Day Old Post Office Projection Project is anticipated to run from July 1-7 in a large projection onto the Idea Exchange Old Post Office building (12 Water Street South, Cambridge). After July 7, the exhibit will run Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings starting at 9 p.m. until the end of July. For more details on Canada Day, visit www.cambridge.ca/canadaday.
What to submit
Close up portrait (head and shoulders) – For example, you wearing your favourite red and white wardrobe/costume, face painted, your pet in their red and white, etc.
Close up action photos of one or two people - actively celebrating being a Canadian. For example, decorate your porch or backyard in preparation of Canada Day – show us your Canadiana!
Looking for photo inspiration? There are three Canada-themed art installations in Cambridge that the community can visit to take a photo. When visiting these art installations, please respect public health guidelines and remember physical distancing requirements.
- Macintyre Square, across from the Farmers’ Market at 40 Dickson Street – Danny Ingrouville’s art installation “Controlled Chaos”
- Graffiti Wall, at 19 Queen Street East – The Underground Gallery Artists have created a backdrop on the Graffiti Wall.
- Central Park, 615 King Street East – A Canada Day backdrop will be set up in the Central Park gazebo.
How to submit
The deadline to submit Canada Day photos is June 15. Please upload your photos at www.cambridge.ca/canadaday.
Photos can be a maximum file size of 10MB and can be submitted in JPG, TIFF, BMP, and GIF file formats.
All applicable photos submitted will be projected onto the Old Post Office. If the photo is deemed inappropriate or the quality of the photo composition, light and/or resolution do not meet adequate standards, the photo will not be used.
Please note that photo credit cannot be accommodated on the projection and will be used solely for the online gallery. Upon submitting your photo, the City has received permission to use your photo in the projection exhibit along with on the City website and social media.
Cambridge Celebrates Canada Day
Looking for some other Canada Day events you can safely participate in this year? The Cambridge Celebrates Canada Day committee has planned a modified hybrid event for 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The hybrid event will include:
- Fishing derby (pre-registration is required)
- Flyover by the Waterloo Warbirds
- Musical virtual bingo
