Textile artist Suzie Hollihan is excited to be our 2018 Artist-in-Residence!
Suzie Hollihan is a sewer! She has inspired and taught all ages of people to celebrate the art of sewing for over 25 years. With many sewing courses behind her, she ventured forth into the world of both traditional and art quilting. Experimenting with fabric and techniques has led her on a path of discovery of how many things there are to continually learn. Starting out at the age of 5 with her first sewing machine, she has done dressmaking and design which led to fashion shows. Then eager for a challenge, she opened a couple of stores and explored contract sewing. Life happened and things had to change, so focusing more on the teaching aspect became the priority. She aims to revive the lost skills of traditional sewing with a modern twist. To her, there is no greater pleasure than being creative; from taking a piece of cloth and some thread to something magnificent! She truly believes that anyone can accomplish anything and challenges her students to go beyond what they think they can do.
Suzie invites you to join her for a great year of sewing, learning and laughing! Sign up for a work shop, come to a drop-in time, be a part of the ‘For the Love of Cambridge' quilt!

So if you live in Cambridge, work in Cambridge, or have visited Cambridge and love this City you are invited to pick up a free quilt block and create away! Once the blocks are submitted they will be assembled in different configurations and displayed in many different places throughout Cambridge. So on the block front get creative! Stitch, applique, collage, embroider, draw, paint, or embellish the square with an image of what you love about Cambridge. Use whatever material or technique you would like. You could reproduce a Cambridge landmark, place or an event, Cambridge people you know, natural features, landmarks, buildings, history – the possibilities are endless. Any style or artistic approach is welcome. Then on the hidden part of the quilt block use any technique you wish to place a written message of love for this great city!
